Cuzco Tegu Lizard

Tupinambis cuzcoensis
Murphy, Jowers, Lehtinen, Charles, Colli, Peres Jr., Hendry & Pyron, 2016
Madre Selva field station, Depto Loreto, Peru. January 14, 2013.

I’ve seen adult Tegus on my trips to the Peruvian Amazon, but without exception they were hot, bothered, and galloping away into the forest. The juveniles, like the one pictured here, are much easier to deal with. Formerly included in Tupinambis teguixin until Murphy et al. erected T. cuzcoenis in 2016 (photos of this lizard were included in the paper).
