Eastern American Toad

Anaxyrus americanus americanus
(Holbrook, 1836)
St. Louis Co., Missouri. Spring 1972.

My first americanus remains one of the biggest I’ve ever seen, close to four inches in length. I found it under a flat rock in a neighbor’s front yard on a chilly spring day. Pictured are recent American toads from North Carolina.
