Eastern Spadefoot Toad

Scaphiopus holbrookii
(Harlan, 1835)
Bartholomew Co., Indiana. April 26, 2011.

I was in the right place at nearly the right time – several days of rain had flooded farm fields across Indiana, and the spadefoots were out in force. I had just missed the biggest night of the love chorus, but there were still plenty of holbrookii and other anurans in the flooded fields and ditches.
