Peru Mushroomtongue Salamander

Bolitoglossa peruviana
(Boulenger, 1883)
Madre Selva field station, Depto Loreto, Peru. January 16, 2013.

Part of an intricate species complex, this salamander is occasionally found at night on plant leaves, and often a meter or more off the ground. Poke a finger at it, and it may snap itself like a spring, launching into space.
