Sheep Frog

Hypopachus variolosus
(Cope, 1866)
Yucatán, Mexico. June 29, 2017.

This frog was found on a wet road at night, where it was presumably absorbing moisture off the road surface. Their name is derived from the sheep-like call they make when it rains. Also referred to as the Mexican narrow-mouthed toad, this species is in the family Microhylidae, and as such is not really a toad at all.  This species is found from south Texas to Costa Rica.

My Flickr album for this species is here.
