Siamese Crocodile

Crocodylus siamensis
Schneider, 1801
Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Thailand. February 26, 2016.

This crocodile was observed in a small river in Khao Yai National Park. It was swimming along with the current, and we trotted along a small trail that followed the river, shooting video and pictures as we tried to catch up with it. The croc slowed to a stop in a wide pool, and while we stood on the bank with our cameras, it slowly swam over to us. When it reached the bank it suddenly lunged upwards, in a classic ‘Crocodile Hunter’ scene. There was much scrambling backwards on our part, and the croc, having made its point, slowly swam back to the center of the pool. In retrospect I wish I had the forethought to have video rolling during that episode….
