Woodhouse’s Toad

Anaxyrus woodhousii woodhousii
(Girard, 1854)
Chase Co., Kansas. April 24, 2009.

Tucked into a barn for the night to get out of the howling wind (typical wind in springtime Kansas), I could hear toads trilling at a great distance, and we went looking for them. This male was one of a small group of woodhousii gathered in a small prairie pond.
