Amazon Mud Turtle

Kinosternon scorpioides
(Linnaeus, 1766)
Santa Cruz field station, Depto Loreto, Peru. August 16, 2014.

This turtle was found in a shallow stream running through the forest, near the Madre Selva field station. The large head and sculpted, tricarinated carapace are interesting features.
