Painted Forest Toadlet

Engystomops petersi
Jiménez de la Espada, 1872
Madre Selva field station, Depto Loreto, Peru. January 11, 2011.

Our guides call these diminutive creatures “sapo pintada“, or painted toad. They are actually small frogs (family Leptodactylidae) that look like toads or, when they’re sitting up, a small pile of poop.   Formerly in Physalaemus.

My Flickr album for this species is here.
