San Diego Mountain Kingsnake

Lampropeltis zonata ‘pulchra’
(Lockington, 1835)
San Diego Co., California. March 31, 2012.

I looked at pictures of these crawling eye-candies for years, and wondered if I would ever see one myself. These specimens are from the Laguna Mountains. I count myself as fortunate. The ‘pulchra‘ subspecies has been sunk recently, but I’m retaining it as a unique form of mountain king.
