Texas River Cooter

Pseudemys texana
Baur, 1893
Colorado River, Travis Co., Texas. April 6, 2005.

Along the river walk running through downtown Austin, these cooters are the most common turtle, even more so than the Red-eared Slider. I saw dozens of cooters, including several hatchlings. I spent a great afternoon observing a lot of turtles and snakes smack dab in the middle of town.
