Sonoran Gopher Snake

Pituophis catenifer affinis
Hallowell 1852
Cochise Co., Arizona. August 5, 2000.

It was the last herp found on a magical night of road-cruising, crawling on the road within the city limits of Dragoon, Arizona. Midnight had long since fled and while the good citizens of Dragoon are dreaming the night away, all manner of creatures hop and crawl and slither and lope through town. The gopher snake made no attempt to bite when handled, and after a few photos we let the snake continue on its way.
