Terciopelo

Bothrops asper
(Garman, 1883)
Quintana Roo, Mexico. July 2, 2016.

Bodies of water in the Yucatán peninsula are home to frogs, birds, and small mammals, and so the nearby roads are good places to road cruise for Bothrops asper.  Sometimes referred to as fer de lance, but the locals call them terciopelo; the third picture here illustrates their lancehead profile, and namesake.
