Cryptic Turniptail Gecko

Thecadactylus solimoensis
BERGMANN & RUSSELL, 2007
Madre Selva Field Station, Depto. Loreto, Peru. January 10, 2011.

Found near the Madre Selva field station on the Rio Orosa, these large geckos are often seen in and around the field station structures. Formerly considered to be T. rapicauda, the geckos in around our field stations are T. solimoensis. Elsewhere, this is a cryptic species living alongside T. rapicauda, which has a slightly different set of morphological characteristics (see the Comments section in the Reptile Database’s entry for T. solimoensis).

My Flickr album for this species is here.
