Peruvian Red-tailed Boa

Boa constrictor constrictor
LINNAEUS, 1758
Madre Selva Field Station, Depto Loreto, Peru. January 11, 2011.

“OK, who put the Boa in the Dart Frog Tree?” Dale wanted to know. As it turned out, nobody was playing a prank on the rest of us – the snake had found its own way overnight into the small tree in the middle of the field station, which was also home to a small colony of Ranitomeya variabilis. I’ve seen quite a few boas since then, and all of them have been calm, without offering to bite. I’ve heard stories about other not-so-friendly boas, but I haven’t met one yet.

My Flickr album for this species is here.
