Elegant Earless Lizard

Holbrookia elegans thermophila
Barbour 1921
Cochise Co., Arizona. August 15, 2006.

We encountered a few of these handsome lizards while hiking in Tucson Mountain Park. Their taxonomy has changed several times since I first saw them.  This is primarily a Mexican species that makes it as far north as southern Arizona and New Mexico.
