Sonoran Whipsnake

Masticophis bilineatus
(Jan, 1863)
Sonora, Mexico. August 26, 2014.

I’m built for comfort, not for speed, and when it comes to jumping out of moving vehicles and catching snakes on the move, I usually come up empty-handed. So when this gorgeous whipsnake boiled across the pavement in front of the car, I gave it a shot, with low expectations. When I came up for air with the snake in hand, I don’t know who was more surprised, me or the snake.
