Blotched Hooknose Snake

Ficimia publia publia
Cope 1866
Quintana Roo, Mexico. June 26, 2016.

This species shows up occasionally on the roads at night across the Yucatán peninsula. There is a another subspecies (F. p. taylori) which occurs to the north in VeraCruz, and is described based on variation in head scales, but I think it is likely that this species is monotypic.
