Rio Fuerte Beaded Lizard

Heloderma horridum exasperatum
BOGERT & MARTIN DEL CAMPO 1956
Sonora, Mexico. August 22, 2011

Late afternoon on a hot, humid day in southern Sonora. We were walking up a mostly dry wash in search of Beaded Lizards, and sure enough, we found one, wedged into a crevice underneath a rock overhang. Not as striking as a Gila Monster, but a beast nonetheless!

My Flickr album for this species is here.
